During his tour, Sheikh Mohammed was
briefed on progress of work in EIAST well as its
development programmes to upgrade its performance.
EIAST scientists explained to Sheikh Mohammed the
objectives of programmes and research on space,
astronomy, energy, environment and water.
The Vice President also stopped at the earth
observation station of DubaiSat-1 and then proceeded
to the room for collection, management and analysis
of data and images and exchange of data.
At the lab for building satellites, Sheikh Mohammed
viewed a model of DubaiSat-1 and learnt from UAE
engineers and scientists about the phases of
launching the satellite into space and its mission.
Sheikh Mohammed watched a footage about DubaiSat-1
while circling the earth and passing through the UAE
and Dubai airspace.
Sheikh Mohammed commended efforts made by UAE
scientists to achieve this historic milestone which
has further established the UAE place at the world
map of excellence and innovation.
Lauding the key role the UAE engineers have played
in this success, the Vice President said: "Hopes are
high on UAE youth to champion the process of
scientific and technological progress.
"The greatest achievement that has been made is you
......in fact you have broken the barriers and
achieved what many saw as impossible .......this
achievement will open wide the door for sterling
achievements to come he said while bidding farewell
to scientists and engineers.
His Excellency Ahmed Al Mansoori, Director General
of EIAST, said Sheikh Mohammed's visit underlines
his unflinching support for progress and development
in Dubai, in particular, and the UAE, in general.
"It (the visit) signals his special care for
evolution of the scientific research culture among
UAE citizens. He always confirms that sound economy
is the one that based on science and knowledge, he
added. EIAST, he affirmed, would forge ahead
confidently with its efforts to materialise the
strategic objectives of the governments of Dubai and
