In March 2008 Saeed Al Muntafiq was named Executive Chairman of the Dubai Events Management Corporation, a corporate entity under the Government of Dubai mandated to enhance Dubai's position as an international hub for sports and cultural events, conferences and exhibitions. The entity is the sole authority responsible for representing Dubai in signing sports agreements, except football or equestrian-related deals, as well as for drawing up and setting policies, strategies and standards for sports activities and events. Between 2006 and 2007, Mr. Al Muntafiq was also the Chairman of the Board of the Young Arab Leaders (YAL), the leading action-oriented Arab youth NGO with a network of more than 300 region’s leaders in 11 countries working to improve the state of the Arab world. The organization works to create the necessary environment and networks to enable young talented leaders to grow and develop across all sectors of Arab society. During his mandate, Mr. Al Muntafiq set the operational infrastructure and developed key initiatives in the areas of education, leadership, youth network, entrepreneurship and dialogue exchange. In 2007, Saeed Al Muntafiq was the Co Chair of the World Economic Forum on the Middle East in Jordan. In this role, Mr. Al Muntafiq drove the discussion on the need for Arab private companies to drive the diversification growth of the region, the need to create an Arab corporate value system based on merit and the promotion of Arab entrepreneurship. Mr. Al Muntafiq is a Member of the Board of Directors of the Dubai Group, one of the largest financial conglomerates in the Arab region focusing on Investments, Banking and Insurance, both at a regional and global level. He is also a Member of the Board of the Jumeirah Group, a leading hospitality industry with a world class portfolio of hotels. Between April 2002 and May 2006 Mr. Al Muntafiq led the Dubai Development and Investment Authority (DDIA) as the Director General. DDIA was instrumental in advancing the economic development and growth of Dubai and attracting Foreign Direct Investment to the Emirate. In December 1999, Saeed Al Muntafiq joined the Dubai Technology, E-Commerce and Media Free Zone as a member of the founding team. In May 2000 he was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Media City (DMC). In August 2001 Saeed was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Ideas Oasis which was the zone’s incubator of ideas and start ups and the first venture capital firm in the region. In March 2002 he was promoted to the role of Chairman of the Board of Dubai Media City. Saeed Al Muntafiq is also the Vice Chairman of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for Young Business Leaders which is responsible for facilitating the growth of leading local businesses and encouraging local entrepreneurs. He began his career with the Emirates Petroleum Products Company (EPPCO) one of the largest oil and gas companies in the region, in which he worked for 11 years. He was seconded to Caltex Malaysia as Assistant Director of Marketing for two years before returning as General Manager of EPPCO Lubricants. Mr. Al Muntafiq graduated from Schiller International University – UK, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Relations, and Minor in Psychology. He also attended the Program Management Development at Harvard Business School in USA. |
