India’s ASSOCHAM confers Best Award to HFZ
With a plethora of industrial awards to its credit, Sharjah Hamriyah Free Zone Authority has been awarded with another high-status international award. This one comes from India's leading industry lobby – The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASSOCHAM) conferred its Best Performing Special Economic Zone award to
HFZ.

India’s Planning Commission member Mr. Anwarul Hoda presented the award to Dr. Rashid Al Leem, Director General of Sharjah Hamriyah Free Zone, and Department of Seaports and Customs, of the Government of Sharjah. The award was given at the Assocham's international conclave on 'Special Economic Zones: What Will Drive Them'.
ASSOCHAM's secretary general D.S. Rawat said HFZ was one of the great SEZ success stories not only in the region but in the world as well. “They have done a wonderful job. From planning to granting licenses, HFZ has set a great example for those aspiring to run a SEZ in a sustainable and effective manner,' Rawat said.
Giving full credit and praises to the management, marketing team and the investors, Dr. Rashid underlined the role of small, medium and mega industries in Hamriyah. "The industries here supports and networks with one another. They have the knowledge of small systems and large systems. They can perform special tasks that demand special qualities and particular capabilities," he said after receiving the award.
'It is a great moment that business community in India has recognized our performance at HFZ. I am happy to see that lots of efforts are on to establish several free economic zones in India as well,' the Director General said.
Commissioned in late 1995, today, Hamriyah Free Zone is recognized as one of Middle East’s most sophisticated warehousing and distribution centers and provides the best infrastructure for industrial set ups.
Referring to Hamriyah, Dr. Rashid said: 'Around 3,000 companies have their set-ups in our free economic zone. Around 40% of them are Indian companies such as Essar and Larsen and Toubro.' HFZ has seven booming zones, namely: Construction World, Maritime City, Steel City, Timber Land, Oil and Gas Zone, Perfume World, and Petrochemical Zone. There are 400,000 people employed in HFZ.
ASSOCHAM initiated its endeavour of value creation for Indian industry in 1920. Having in its fold more than 300 Chambers and Trade Associations, and serving more than 200,000 members from all over India. Today, ASSOCHAM has emerged as the fountainhead of Knowledge for Indian industry.
