New Physio Centre open in Dubai Healthcare City
A top-class international physiotherapy centre opened in Dubai on 9 February 2009. ‘The Physio Centre’ offers world-class care from international specialists in the fields of physiotherapy, sports physiotherapy, exercise rehabilitation, biomechanical analysis and occupational health, all from its convenient location in Dubai Healthcare City.
Miffy Edlund, an Australian-trained physiotherapist and chief physiotherapist at the Centre, is experienced in treating a wide variety of orthopaedic conditions, focusing on lower limb and sporting injuries, and has worked with professional athletes in tennis, skiing, football and running. Prior to moving to the UAE to open up the Centre, Ms Edlund worked in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and, most recently, the United Kingdom.
According to Ms Edlund, The Physio Centre was founded in response to the pressing need for physiotherapy services in Dubai, where one often has to wait for long periods before getting an appointment. “The difficulty getting timely physio treatment suggested to us that there was definitely a pressing need for physiotherapy and related services in Dubai. We also feel that our distinctive, patient-centred approach, which relies less on machines than other traditional physiotherapy clinics, and more on a hands-on/exercise method, will offer a unique treatment experience to all our patients.”
“At The Physio Centre,” she continued, “our aim is simple: we will provide expert physiotherapy services, from assessment and diagnosis to treatment and rehabilitation, for everyone, from elite and amateur athletes, to less-active individuals, enabling all to return to their desired activity with optimal performance in as short a time as possible. We will employ progressive and up-to-date treatment in all areas of sports, spinal, lower limb, upper limb and occupational health physiotherapy for all ages.”
As the first physiotherapy centre in Dubai to offer movement analysis using video technology, The Physio Centre will make use of Siliconcoach, a software program from New Zealand, to view video footage of patients’ movement frame by frame to assess normal and abnormal movement patterns. The Centre will also be the only one in Dubai to offer the services of a specific Exercise Therapist. There is strong evidence suggesting that recovery from and prevention of injury using physiotherapy is most effective when a combination of hands-on and exercise rehab is utilised, and The Physio Centre’s Exercise Therapist will help ensure that patients are able to complete their individual rehab programs with perfect technique within the clinic, ensuring maximum benefit.
Physiotherapy uses a physical approach to promote, maintain and restore physical well-being, taking into account variations in health status. It is a science-based therapy that applies this knowledge to all aspects of patient management – assessment, treatment, education and prevention. Physiotherapists use clinical judgement and scientific evidence to reduce pain, restore movement, increase strength and awareness, educate patients and prevent injury. They aim to accelerate a return to activity and maximise potential, and encourage patients to work with them to ensure full recovery of strength and control, minimising the chance of recurrence. |
