Jafza opens North American headquarters
Jafza International has opened its North American headquarters in South Carolina, in preparation for the launch of the Dh2.2-billion ($600 million) logistics and business park in Orangeburg.
The project marks the entry of Jazfa, the global free zone management and consultancy arm of Economic Zones World (EZW), into the American market. EZW is a commercial entity created under the government-owned holding company, Dubai World.
Chuck Heath, managing director of Jafza, said the headquarters in South Carolina would be the base for all the company's businesses in the US. "We are now moving fast to achieve our South Carolina target and pursue further expansion in the region," he said.
In a statement, Jafza said it is also pursuing additional sites in the US for development, including Virginia and Ohio. "The company sees the South Carolina project as the first step in making its mark in the American market," it added.
The headquarters has started the recruitment of staff. Some of its departments have begun operating such as the business development, administration, sales and marketing and engineering.
Last year Jafza signed an agreement with Orangeburg County for the development of 1,300 acres of land into a modern logistics and distribution park. This will include light manufacturing, warehousing and distribution facilities.
The statement said: "The ambitious project will tremendously activate Orangeburg's economy and generate 8,000 to 10,000 jobs in the next decade. The project will be one of the biggest logistics hubs in the US." |
